Searching for a Sterile Neutrino at J-PARC MLF: JSNS2 experiment
نویسنده
چکیده
The search for sterile neutrinos is one of the hottest topics in the neutrino physics in this decade. The JSNS2 (J-PARC Sterile Neutrino Search at the J-PARC Spallation Neutron Source) experiment aims to search for the existence of neutrino oscillations with ∆m2 near 1eV2 at the J-PARC Materials and Life Science Experimental Facility (MLF). With the 1 MW of 3 GeV proton beam created by Rapid Cycling Synchrotron (RCS) and spallation neutron target, an intense neutrino beam from muon decay at rest is available. Neutrinos come predominantly from μ+ decay : μ+→ e++ ν̄μ +νe. The oscillation to be searched for is ν̄μ to ν̄e which is detected by the inverse beta decay interaction ν̄e + p→ e++n, followed by gammas from neutron capture of Gd. The two detectors with a fiducial volume of 50 tons are located 24 meters away from the mercury target. This experiment is an ultimate direct test of the LSND anormaly.

The T2K Neutrino Oscillation Experiment and Possible Future Projects
The Tokai to Kamioka (T2K) experiment is a next generation long baseline neutrino oscillation experiment utilising the Japan Proton Accelerator Research Complex (J-PARC) high intensity proton synchrotron. After a brief introduction of the current understanding of neutrino mixing, the T2K experiment, its current status and the expected physics results are presented. Then, possibilities for futur...
متن کاملA Possible Future Long Baseline Neutrino and Nucleon Decay Experiment with a 100 kton Liquid Argon TPC at Okinoshima using the J-PARC Neutrino Facility
In this paper, we consider the physics performance of a single far detector composed of a 100 kton next generation Liquid Argon Time Projection Chamber (LAr TPC) possibly located at shallow depth, coupled to the J-PARC neutrino beam facility with a realistic 1.66 MW operation of the Main Ring. The new far detector could be located in the region of Okinoshima islands (baseline L ∼ 658 km). Our e...

By combining data from cosmic microwave background (CMB) experiments (including the recent WMAP third year results), large scale structure (LSS) and Lyman-α forest observations, we constrain the hypothesis of a fourth, sterile, massive neutrino. For the 3 massless + 1 massive neutrino case we bound the mass of the sterile neutrino to ms < 0.26eV (0.44eV) at 95% (99.9%) c.l.. These results exclu...

The question of the existence of light sterile neutrinos is of great interest in many areas of particle physics, astrophysics, and cosmology. Furthermore, should the MiniBooNE experiment at Fermilab confirm the LSND oscillation signal, then new measurements are required to identify the mechanism responsible for these oscillations. Possibilities include sterile neutrinos, CP or CPT violation, va...
